Organize your nail polish!

I got this little shelf at Goodwill for a whopping $.99! It was kinda plain, and a little scuffed up, and had this dated heart and pattern on it. I immediately felt that this was the perfect size for storing my nail polishes. I didn't do anything major to it but it is much cuter and definitely useful for a makeup hoarder/junkie like me haha. You can use any size shelf that you have but if you are going to display polishes on it, I recommend one with shallow shelves unless you want to line up more polishes in front of each row. First, find your shelf and set it up in a well ventilated area (I went out onto the balcony). Unless you want the area around it painted as well, I suggest covering the surrounding area with an old sheet, or even one of those cheap $1 vinyl table cloths for birthday parties. I happened to have a tri-fold board I wasn't using so that worked well for me. I used Kryolan Primer from Wal-Mart which was a little under $4 if I remember correctly. It is gray and matte and if you want your shelf gray, you can totally use this - just prime and be sure to seal it with a top coat to make it look more polished. I already had this primer on hand and ran out before I finished so I went over it with Rustoleum Self-Etching Primer - I didn't even know what a self etching primer was until after I covered the whole thing lol (it's ok, we're all learning here!). After It dried I realized that it gives it a rough texture (it kinda seemed like I didn't clean the dust and dirt off well but I knew I did - it was the primer causing this). It was a fine texture so I just left it...it doesn't look bad at all so oh well. Once it's completely dry, you can now paint over the primer with the color of your choice. I also used the Kryolan spray paint in an aqua color. It took me about 3/4 of a can to get it coated well and evenly painted. I used a paint with gloss, eliminating the need to coat it with a glossy sealant...this however is all preference. Once It's dry (about 30 minutes to be 100% sure), it's ready to hang on the wall and be put to use! I'm so excited that my polishes are out of the way and within easy reach now! No more digging through a box of polishes and never being able to see all the color choices I had. Here's the process in photos:
